Chinanews, Sept. 15 - Now metrosexual, the word applies mostly to the
newly appeared fashionable, sensitive and excessive narcissistic men,
could be used to describe a group of Chinese male. These men have strong
heart but delicate appearance and tend towards a neutral sexuality.
Metrosexual is a compound word created from combining the word
"Metropolis" and "Sexual" and its meaning is a dandyish narcissist in
love not only with himself, but also his urban lifestyle. This phrase was
coined by British author cum social critic Mark Simpson in 1994.
Metrosexual is a new definition of the new urban male, after "Yuppie".
Metrosexuals do not emphasize dress for success. For them, clothing is
only one way to enjoy life. What they are after is a simple dress for
beauty.
China's white-collar "male beau" is the core of urban "male beau". They
have received a good education and possess a certain level of
materialistic foundation.
On the one hand they shoulder large pressure from work and life; on the
other hand they never give up the pursuit of self-worth.
China's "white collar male beau" tends to have the following basic
characteristics: their work is not the fashionable industry of the
moment, their work experience is around five years or more, their monthly
income is around 6,000 RMB (US$750), their job responsibility is
mid-level and they tend to live alone and stay single. Their expenditures
on clothing amount to 60% of their normal spending. They love global
brands and are most often found in Shanghai.
Experts believe that the emergence of "white collar male beau" is the
result of changes in the society's value system. At present, society is
at a hedonistic period and the entire era's individualistic motivation
concerns one's self-worth. Men have also gradually shifted from pursuing
social values to one's personal values and this group is concentrated in
those born in 1976 and later.
