Soldiers busy with desilting work in Haikou

Officers and soldiers of the People's Liberation Army stationed in
southern China's Hainan Province were desilting the East Lake and West
Lake in Haikou City despite the high temperature of 37 degrees Celsius
(98.6 degrees Fahrenheit) on April 27. Starting April 25, Hainan
provincial military area dispatched more than 2,200 officers and soldiers
and also 300 engineering plants of various types for the desilting work
of two lakes and four channels in Haikou City. Experts estimate that the
overall silt content of these lakes and channels reaches 92,982 cubic
meters. This desilting project covers 60,061 square meters of lake area
and 8.95 kilometers of channels.

The International Peony Garden in Henan's Luoyang City staged a grand art
performance themed "Empress Wu Zetian appreciating peonies" on Apr. 24,
presenting the royal scene of Empress Wu Zetian appreciating peonies
dated back to 1,000-odd years ago and displaying the profound culture and
history of peony to visitors.
